January 10-14

Math:
This week we will continue our unit on fractions. Students will have homework Monday-Thursday.

Writing: We are working on information text.

Reading: Students received their book report project information last Friday. The genre for this month is Realistic Fiction. Students should finish reading their book by this Friday so that they have sufficient time to work on the project. The project will be due Monday January 31st.

Spelling: The packet is due and the spelling test will be Friday. The words this week are: graphics, animation, columnist, byline, studio, earphones, produces, commercial, recorder, video, network, camera, newspaper, director, television, editorial, headline, musician, masthead, and broadcast.

Social Studies: We are still learning about the Revolutionary War. Hopefully taxes will end this week!

Science: We are learning about Earth Changes. This week we will cover the layers of the earth, earthquakes, and volcanoes. Students are asked to bring clay on Tuesday in order to make a model earth. The ingredients are listed below:

1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
2 Tbs. Cream of Tarter
1 cup water
2 tsp. food color (they should know what color they were assigned)
1 Tbs. oil

Directions: Put all the ingredients into a sauce pan, stir and cook it for 3-5 minutes, or until it sticks into a ball. Knead it for a few minutes. Make sure it cools entirely and then place it in a gallon sized ziplock bag to bring to class.

Students should have shown their work to you over the weekend and need you to sign their red folder Monday night. Also, their weekly reading minutes are due Tuesday.
