Math Morning is Wednesday October 6 from 7:45-8:45a.m. Come and get many different ideas and materials that will help you make math fun at home!
Math: We just finished our first math unit. I was very impressed with how well each student did on the test. This week we are starting a new unit on multiplication and division. The best way for students to succeed is to know their multiplication facts. If they have not mastered them yet, they can buy flash cards at the dollar store or make their own and run through them often. This week and next we will focus on multiplication and then move onto division the following weeks.
Writing: We are starting our monster stories and will continue working on vivid details in persuasive essays.
Reading: We are starting a new reading program at our school. Students will receive a folder on Monday where they will record their reading minutes every day. If they read 100 minutes each week they will receive 1 ticket to put into the drawing for a bike. If they read over 140 minutes they will receive 2 tickets. Each week you need to initial that they read the amount indicated on the folder.
Social Studies: We will be talking about Hernando Cortes, John Cabot, Jaques Cartier, Henry Hudson, The Northwest Passage, and Francis Drake.
Spelling: Students will receive a spelling packet on Monday that is due Friday. The spelling test will also be Friday. The spelling words for this week are: greet, pizza, weak, breathe, freeze, piano, speech, asleep, increase, peace, ski, defeat, reason, needle, steep, sheet, wheat, agree, degree, and beneath. Students do not have to do Writing to the Point or Challenge Yourself. These two parts are extra credit. Check the side bar for fun ideas on how to study your spelling words at home.
