May 16-20

This is the last week of CRTs. We will be taking them Monday from 9:30-11:30, and Thursday from 2:00-3:30. Please make sure your child is present, if possible.

Math: We will be reviewing and also starting a new math unit in measurement and elapsed time. Students will only have homework on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Writing: Students are starting a research paper on the state of their choice. I will give them some time in class to look up information about their state, but they may need to print off some material at home. This week students will write one page on the history this Tuesday and another page about the things to see and do on Thursday. They will be given 1 hour in class to write each page. If they do not finish within the given time, they will have to finish at home. I have made it clear that students are to write these pages in their OWN words. Some helpful websites to find information about their states are:

www.uen.org: click on Pioneer Search, K-12, Culture Grams (login: pioneer/password: search)

www.uen.org: click on Pioneer Search, K-12, Encyclopedia (login: pioneer/password: search)

www.50states.com

Reading: Students should almost be done reading their book for this month. We will do the book report in class.

Spelling: There will be no more spelling this year. Instead students will be studying for the 50 states test on May 27. (see below for more details)

Social Studies: Students will be filling out a study guide Monday and Tuesday for the 50 states test. They will be required to know all 50 states and match them to a map, know the capitals, and abbreviations. They have already been tested on all of these states by section so this should just be a review. Please make sure your child spends some time each day studying. The test will be Friday May 27th.
