January 25-29

Long Live King George III!!!!

I think you will all agree that life is excellent in our colony! Out of the goodness of his heart, King George repealed the stamp act!

Math: We took a test on chapter 5 today! We will start chapter 6 on Tuesday the 26th. This is another reminder to save all of your assignments so that you can use them to study before the test!

Writing: We are working on personal persuasive papers this week. Students must type their final draft at home unless they get specific permission not to. They will then present this paper by reading it to the class. Students must speak clearly, loudly, and with expression. They must also bring one visual item that goes along with their paper. We will begin to present our papers next Monday.

Spelling: The spelling words for this week are: square, stare, dairy, area, January, dictionary, daring, beware, argument, large, partner, guarding, article, orchestra, ordinary, important, force, and before.

The school spelling bee is this Wednesday the 27th at 9:00am. If your student is participating you are welcome to come!

Social Studies: We are finishing up our unit of the Revolutionary War. Students will receive a study guide on Tuesday the 26th and will have 1 week to study. The unit test will be given on Tuesday February 2.

Reading: Students will be taking the SRI, which is a reading comprehension test, for the second time this school year on Wednesday the 27th.

Field Trip: Next Monday Feb. 1st the entire 5th grade will be going to the Utah Symphony. We will leave school at 10:00 A.M. and return for lunch at 1:00 P.M. All students must be dressed appropriately for this occasion and must obtain permission from a parent or guardian.

The following taxes are in currently being enforced in the colonies: lunch, sugar, bathroom, drink, pencil, quartering, street, and proclamation. Colonies are also not allowed to sing, chant, stomp, or clap.
