January 25-29

Long Live King George III!!!!

I think you will all agree that life is excellent in our colony! Out of the goodness of his heart, King George repealed the stamp act!

Math: We took a test on chapter 5 today! We will start chapter 6 on Tuesday the 26th. This is another reminder to save all of your assignments so that you can use them to study before the test!

Writing: We are working on personal persuasive papers this week. Students must type their final draft at home unless they get specific permission not to. They will then present this paper by reading it to the class. Students must speak clearly, loudly, and with expression. They must also bring one visual item that goes along with their paper. We will begin to present our papers next Monday.

Spelling: The spelling words for this week are: square, stare, dairy, area, January, dictionary, daring, beware, argument, large, partner, guarding, article, orchestra, ordinary, important, force, and before.

The school spelling bee is this Wednesday the 27th at 9:00am. If your student is participating you are welcome to come!

Social Studies: We are finishing up our unit of the Revolutionary War. Students will receive a study guide on Tuesday the 26th and will have 1 week to study. The unit test will be given on Tuesday February 2.

Reading: Students will be taking the SRI, which is a reading comprehension test, for the second time this school year on Wednesday the 27th.

Field Trip: Next Monday Feb. 1st the entire 5th grade will be going to the Utah Symphony. We will leave school at 10:00 A.M. and return for lunch at 1:00 P.M. All students must be dressed appropriately for this occasion and must obtain permission from a parent or guardian.

The following taxes are in currently being enforced in the colonies: lunch, sugar, bathroom, drink, pencil, quartering, street, and proclamation. Colonies are also not allowed to sing, chant, stomp, or clap.

January 20-23


Welcome Back Colonists!

Math: We are continuing our unit on graphing and probability and will take the Chapter 5 test on Monday. Make sure to study the homework you get back in your mail box.

Writing: We are preparing for the Utah Write state wide writing test in 6 weeks. Students can prepare for this at home by practicing four square writing and typing.

Social Studies: We are finishing up our unit on the Revolutionary War.

Spelling: We have no spelling this week

Vocabulary: We have a vocabulary test this Friday. To see a list of the words they will be tested on scroll down to last week.

The school spelling bee will be next Wednesday. The winners from our class are: Haylie, Alex F., and Hunter. We wish them all well!

The colonists are taxed on the following items by King George III: stamp, proclamation, drink, pencil, bathroom, street, quartering, sugar, and tea.

January 11-15

Greetings Happy Colonists,

Math: This week we are continuing our graphing and probability unit in math.

Writing: In writing we are finishing our persuasive papers: Boys/Girls are Better

Social Studies: In social studies we are still learning about the Revolutionary War

Vocabulary: We are studying the following social studies vocabulary words: patriot, Tory, Hessian, minuteman, revolution, ally, parliament, legislature, ordinance, and Sons of Liberty.
Students are expected to match each of these words with the appropriate definition. They will be bringing home a study guide this week and will be tested on these words Friday January 22.

Spelling: This week the spelling words are: urgent, Thursday, purpose, thirsty, camera, wonder, smuggler, remember, surprise, earth, certain, person, dollar, color, collar, early, mayor, and doctor. The bonus words are: assembly, Intolerable Act, Quartering Act, and Tories

Spelling Bee: The class spelling bee is this Friday. All students will participate. They were given the spelling words to study last week. The top 3 spellers from our class will participate in the school spelling bee.

Colonists have the following taxes placed upon them: The Stamp Tax, Sugar Tax, Pencil Sharpening Tax, Bathroom Tax, and Water Tax

January 4-8

Welcome Back!

This week we are starting a social studies unit on the American Revolution.

We are also starting a new unit in Math so remember to save all of your homework assignments until after the test.

There is a spelling test on Friday. The words are: countries, addresses, women, lessons, people, skis, friends, roofs, calves, fences, flies, lives, cherries, businesses, guesses, families, leaves, and pictures. We are discussing the different rules to change words from singular to plural such as: changing the y to and i and add es, change the f to a v and add es, add s, add es, and change the entire word.

The bonus words are: proclamation, taverns, revolution, massacre, Committees of Correspondence
