April 25-29

Welcome Back to School!

Next week we are going on a field trip to the Frank E. Moss Federal Courthouse Wednesday May 4th from 9:15-2p.m. If you would like to come with your child, please indicate so on the note I sent home or in their planner.

Our 5th grade America Program is Friday May 6th from 9:15-10a.m. Please mark that on your calendar so that you can come if possible.

IMPORTANT- We will start CRT testing next week. Our scheduled test times are as follows:

May 5th from 1-2
May 12th from 9:30-11
May 16th from 9:30-11:30
May 19th from 2-3:30

Please make sure your child is present those days!

Math: We are studying probability, measurement, and reviewing this week. Students will have homework every night this week except for Friday.

Writing: We are working on a slavery journal this week.

Spelling: The packet is due and the test will be taken Friday. The words this week are: teacher, similar, actor, center, toaster, calendar, rather, character, humor, whether, discover, answer, another, silver, cellar, gather, member, polar, master, and sugar. If your child is gone the day we take the spelling test, please administer it to them at home.

Reading: Historical fiction book reports are due this Friday! Students can pick any genre of book for May's book report as long as it is on their reading level and has at least 150 pages.

Social Studies: We are focusing on 1862 during the Civil War.

Science: We are almost done with our Chemistry unit and students will be tested next week.

April 11-15

Remember Spring Break is next week!

Math: We are taking our Geometry test on Tuesday and then we will begin measurement, probability, and review for the end of the year testing. Students will have homework every day but Tuesday.

Writing: We are finishing our narratives and will begin a story about the Underground Railroad.

Reading: The genre for this month's book report is Historical Fiction. Students should have a book selected already. The project instructions will be sent home on Tuesday. Students will be making a paper quilt.

Spelling: The packet is due and the test will be given on Friday. The words this week are: general, animal, final, natural, musical, signal, nickel, barrel, whistle, simple, pickles, trouble, double, puzzle, tumble, tremble, example, sample, wrinkle, and couple.

Social Studies: We are beginning our Civil War unit. Students have a map test this Friday. They will receive the study guide on Tuesday.

Science: We are in the middle of our Chemistry unit. Ask your kids what they are learning!

April 4-8

The Spirit Assembly is Tuesday. Remember to wear your school colors!

We are doing a fun project in computers. If possible, students need to bring a DVD disk to burn it on.

Math: We finished our Geometry unit and will take the test this Wednesday. Students will have homework every day this week but Wednesday and Friday.

Writing: We are focusing on dialogue in our narrative stories.

Reading: Our book report genre this month is Historical Fiction. Students should select a book by the end of this week.

Spelling: The packet is due and the test is Friday. The spelling words this week are: season, ocean, qualify, memory, citrus, chorus, government, again, approve, cousin, dangerous, against, industry, perhaps, banana, surprise, beautiful, canoe, mosquito, and comfort.

Science: We just took the Electricity and Magnetism test. Student scores were sent home over the weekend. We started our final unit on Chemistry today.

Social Studies: We just finished our Westward Movement unit. Students will take the test this Wednesday. They have a study guide. If they know the study guide well, they will do great on the test. Students will also be memorizing 5 states and capitals this week. The quiz will be Friday.
