February 28-March 4

Parent Teacher Conferences: Conferences are next Wednesday and Thursday. Please sign up for a time by going to www.granite.canyonsdistrict.org, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Online Scheduler, select Granite and then put in the password which is grizzlies.

Math: We are learning about angles, polygons, triangles, and quadrilaterals. Students will have homework Mon.-Wed.

Writing: We are taking the DWA this Wednesday after lunch. Make sure that your child is present that day!

Reading: The book report is due on Wednesday. Your child has been given enough time to finish the persuasive paper at school. If they didn't use their time wisely, they will have to complete it at home. Next months book report genre is Biography. The book must be at least 100 pages long and on their reading level. The project information will be given at the end of this week.

Spelling: The packet is due and the test will be given Thursday. The words this week are: score, quarrel, court, adore, roar, shore, before, reward, course, board, wore, warn, tore, export, toward, perform, fortunate, orchard, import, and important.

Science: We are beginning our unit on Magnetism and Electricity.

Social Studies: We are finishing our unit on the Government and will begin Westward movement. Students have a quiz on the Mid-Atlantic States Wednesday. They must match the names with the picture, the capital, and postal code abbreviation. Students were given study guides last week.

Remember: There is no school this Friday.

February 22-25

Important: Maturation is Wednesday from 2:00-3:00p.m. Your child needs a permission slip signed in order to go.

Math: We are reviewing adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions on Tuesday and will take the test on Wednesday. Thursday we will begin our geometry unit. Students will have homework every day but Friday.

Writing: This is our last week to prepare for the DWA on March 2. Please make sure that your child is present that day.

Reading: The book report will be written in class this week and will be due Monday Feb. 28th. If students don't finish it in class, they will have to take it home.

Spelling: The packet is due and the test will be given Friday. The words this week are: cycling, track, soccer, football, professional, basketball, skin diving, skiing, Olympics, champion, volleyball, bowling, skating, golf, baseball, amateur, swimming, tennis, hockey, and competition.

Science: Students will be taking the Heredity test Thursday. They have a guide to study in order to prepare. On Friday we will begin the next unit on Magnetism.

Social Studies: We are focusing on the Constitution and Government and then will begin the Westward movement.

February 15-18

Math: We are finishing our second fractions unit and will take the test next week. There will be homework Wednesday and Thursday due to the Symphony on Tuesday.

Writing: We are preparing for the DWA test on March 2nd. Make sure your child is present that day.

Spelling: The packet is due and the test will be given Friday. This week the words are: noise, destroy, annoy, enjoy, choice, appoint, moisture, employment, boiler, oyster, coin, loyal, avoid, loyalty, voice, voyage, royal, broil, employ, and appointment.

Reading: This month the genre for the book report is Fantasy. Students will be writing a persuasive paper for the project in class. If they don't use their time wisely, they may have to finish it at home. This is due February 28th.

Vocabulary: Students are learning the following vocabulary words this week and will be tested on them this Friday: parent organism, population, specialized structures, species, survival, trait, and variations.

Science: We will finish our Heredity unit this week and will take the unit test next week. We will study mealworm behavior on Thursday. Students are welcome to take a mealworm home and watch it turn into a beetle. In order to do so they must bring a small container on Thursday to carry it home in. Mealworms eat cereal flakes and apples.

Social Studies: We are learning about the Constitution and government this week. Students will take a quiz on the New England states on Wednesday. They must match each state to a map, write the capital and postal abbreviation. Students received a study guide last week.

February 7-11

Remember: There is no school on Monday February 14th! Also, students will be going to the Symphony on Tuesday Feb. 15th. There are no parent volunteers needed, and students will be back before lunch. Make sure that they wear nice clothes.

Math: This week we are finishing our 2nd fractions unit. Students will take the unit test next week. They will have homework every day except Friday.

Writing: We are preparing for the DWA test. This will be taken March 2nd. Make sure your child is present that day. We are practicing writing persuasive papers in class, however if your child needs extra practice they can do so at home by going to www.utahwrite.com. Their students ID number is the Username, and the Password is WRITE.

Reading: The genre for the book report this month is Fantasy. Students should finish reading their book by the end of next week so they can start on their project. This month they are writing a persuasive paper on their book. They will be given enough time in class to write it, however if they don't use that time wisely, they may need to complete it at home. It is due February 28th.

Spelling: The packet is due and the test will be given Friday. This week the spelling words are: choose, loose, lose, rooster, balloon, shampoo, improve, clue, kangaroo, fruit, proof, prove, truth, foolish, shoe, whom, juice, whose, raccoon, and glue.

Science: We are talking about Heredity. Students will be doing different experiments this week and next. Make sure to ask them about the fun things they are learning.

Social Studies: We are discussing the Articles of Confederation, the Constitutional Convention, and the Branches of Government. They need to memorize The New England states, capitals, and abbreviations this week. They received a study guide on Monday and will be quizzed this Friday.

Valentines Party: The party will be Friday from 1-1:50pm. You are welcome to come if you like. Students can participate in a competition for most comical, technological, beautiful, or creative Valentines box, however it is not an assignment. They may also bring valentines to give to other students. A class list will be given to each child on Tuesday.

January 31-February 4

Reminder: If your child is absent, it is THEIR responsibility to come to me and make sure they have made up all missing work and tests.

Math
: We just finished taking the first test on fractions and have begun unit 2. This week we will study adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions. Students will have homework Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. They have no homework Tuesday so that they can study for their Science test.

Writing: We are preparing for the DWA test in March. Students can take practice tests by going to www.utahwrite.com. Their username is their student ID number and the password is WRITE.

Reading: The genre for the book report this month is Fantasy! Students need to select a book this week and have it approved by me. I will give them their project information on Wednesday. This month will be simple.

Spelling: The packet is due and the spelling test is Friday. The words this week are: dawn, raw, autumn, crawl, thought, fault, lawn, automobile, fought, straw, daughter, all right, caught, already, bought, brought, wrong, taught, often, and awful. Look to the side bar for helping studying tips.

Science: The Physical Features test is Wednesday. Students have a study guide to help them prepare. We will start a new unit on Heredity on Thursday.

Social Studies: Students took the Revolutionary War test Tuesday. We will begin a unit on the government Wednesday.
