May 24-28

Math: This week we will cover temperature, minutes, hours, and month conversions, and elapsed time. Students will have homework every day.

Writing: Students are finishing their letters to the fourth graders explaining what to expect in fifth grade.

Spelling and Language: There will be spelling homework every day and a test on Friday. We are also making an idiom book, and will talk about onomatopoeias.

Social Studies: We will finish our unit on Westward Expansion this Tuesday. Students will take the unit test Friday morning. If they study their study guide, they will do very well. On Friday they must have their "Bundle of Memories" project finished for Immigration day.

This Thursday is the 5th grade talent show. There will be 1 student selected from each class to perform in the school talent show Thursday June 3rd.

May 17-21

Math: We are finishing the year with a measurement unit. Students will still have math homework every night this week.

Spelling: There are spelling words this week and a spelling test on Friday.

Writing: Students will be writing an informational or persuasive letter to a fourth grader about what to expect in 5th grade.

Language: Students will be learning about alliteration, smilies, metaphors, and idioms.

Social Studies: We have one more unit this year on the westward movement. The test will be Friday May 28. They will be working on a project called "Bundle of Memories". A note explaining the details will go home with the students on Tuesday. In short, they will try to find out information regarding one of their ancestors in order to participate in Immigration Day on May 28th.

Upcoming Events: The 5th grade talent show will be next Thursday May 27th at 1:30. Students who win will go on to perform in the school talent show on the last day of school, June 4th.

The Grand Event is this Friday from 5-8. Make sure to bring back your R.S.V.P by Wednesday!

May 10-14

CRT: We are taking the math CRT this Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure that you are there!

Math: We are testing and then we will have two days with NO MATH! We will begin a measurement unit next week. There will only be math homework Monday and Tuesday this week.

Writing: We will be publishing our narrative stories

Spelling: There will be spelling homework every night this week

Social Studies: We finished our Civil War unit and will take the test this Wednesday. Students have study guides and Jeopardy pages to study in order to prepare. This Thursday is Civil War Day. Students will be building tents for their armies, competing in a marching competition, performing skits, writing fake letters home, reenacting a battle/field hospital, playing games etc... This will be a really fun day so you won't want to miss it!

On Friday we will be going to see Dancing Princesses. Students will gone from 9:15-12pm.

May 3-7

CRT TESTING:
For the next two weeks we will be testing. It is very important that students are present. Please reschedule any conflicts.

Math: We will be covering basic algebra skills such as solving addition and subtraction equations, understanding integers, and coordinate planes. We will also be reviewing in order to prepare for the math CRT test next week. Students will have math homework every day.

Writing: We will finish and publish our short narrative stories

Reading and Spelling: Students will have spelling words this week

Social Studies: This is the last week we will be studying the Civil War. On Friday students will play the last Jeopardy game. They should memorize their assigned questions in order to be prepared. On Thursday students will simulate a "Field Hospital". They have been assigned parts and should come prepared on Thursday with the appropriate clothing. Next Tuesday students will take the unit test. They have a study guide that they can begin studying this week.
