Math: We are continuing our fractions math unit. Remember to save your homework so that you can use them to review before the test.
Writing: Next week is the DWA test.
Reading: I am testing students to place them on the appropriate reading level. Students are also starting a new book report. They have until March 5 to read their book and then 2 weeks to write a persuasive paper on it. The paper is supposed to convince the class to read the book. Students will write using the four-square method they have been learning in class.
Spelling: We are taking a spelling test this Friday. The words are the same as last week.
Science: We are still studying chemistry. Students will take a vocabulary test on the chemistry words they are learning on Friday.
There is a Box Tops Beach Day this Wednesday. Students can dress up in their beach clothes and attend a theme party in the activity room during lunch recess. If students bring box tops they can enter a drawing for prizes.
NO SCHOOL FRIDAY!!! This day is reserved for teachers to prepare for parent-teacher conferences. Make sure to set aside time to come the evening of March 3rd or 4th.

Happy Presidents Day!
Math: On Monday we are reviewing and on Tuesday we will take our geometry test. Students can use their homework to study. We will start a new math unit on fractions this Thursday.
Writing: Students did very well on their class presentations. We will finish up our presentations on Tuesday and continue to practice writing for our upcoming DWA writing test on Wednesday March 3. So far students are doing really well on the practice tests.
Reading: I will begin testing this week in order to place them on a new reading level. This test will show how much they have improved since the beginning of the year. Students are leveled from A to Z.
Science: We are starting a new Chemistry science unit this week. Students will be required to do 7 home experiments. Each Wednesday, two of the 7 experiments will be due. The first two experiments are due Wednesday February 24th.

February 8-12
Math: We are concluding our math unit chapter 6 on geometry. Students will be tested next Wednesday February 17.
Writing: Our persuasive papers will be finished this week. Students are required to type their final copy at home and then present it to the class by this Friday. If students do not have a computer they may get my permission to hand write it. Students will be graded on their voice level and expression as they present. These papers will be compiled into a class book after all presentations are over.
Spelling: The spelling words this week are: awhile, where, thought, athletes, truthful, purchases, exchange, though, rhythm, children, chocolates, friendship, together, white, watches, arithmetic, months, and length.
Bonus words: quadrilateral, constitution, legislative, and Articles of Confederation
Jazz Reading: This is the last week of our read-athon. Students must turn in the minutes they read every Tuesday.
Social Studies: We are finishing up a small unit on the government, constitution, Articles of Confederation, and Bill of Rights. Students will be tested on the three branches of government this Friday. They have a study guide that they can study during school and at home.
Math Night: Monday from 6:30-8:30pm. Students may come to school with their parents to receive some great math and writing ideas and materials to use at home.

Math: We are continuing a unit on geometry. Students should save their homework in order to study for the test on February 17.
Writing: We are finishing our individual persuasive papers and will begin presenting them at the end of this week.
Spelling: The spelling words this week are: about, algebra, quiet, other, compare, thousand, happen, different, along, equator, dozen, animal, second, region, quarter, lecture, puncture, and again.
Social Studies: We have a test on the Revolutionary War on Tuesday. We will begin a new government unit the next day. In this unit we will study the Articles of Confederation, the branches of government, laws, and the Bill of Rights.
On Monday we are going to the Utah Symphony!
